Naughty and Nice Adults

During the Holidays, we often talk about Santa checking on kids who have been naughty or nice. Following are my suggestions for some adults who have been naughty and others who have been nice.

Naughty – Bridget Ziegler has been asked to resign from the Florida School Board because her husband has been accused of rape. Ziegler and her husband have confirmed they were both to meet the woman for a threesome, but when Zieger had to cancel, her husband stayed and eventually accused of rape by the woman. Ziegler is the co-founder of Moms for Liberty, which strives to restrict LGBTQ rights, battle pandemic mask mandates and remove books to which the group objects from Florida schools.
Nice – All the organizations and people of faith who support LGBTQ youth. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24. According to the Trevor Project, LGBTQ youth are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers. Again according the Trevor Project, 45% of LGBTQ youth last year considered suicide.
Comment – People of faith know that God loves all people. I wonder if Ziegler accepts books in the library on threesomes and rape and then rejects books affirming the LGBTQ community. If she goes to church, she may want to find a different one.

Naughty – Texas Supreme Court along with Texas Attorney General who denied a Texas woman an abortion that would save her life.
Nice – The woman’s attorneys along with all others fought for her and made it possible to go to another state for a life saving abortion.
Comment – Woman’s health care should be completely and solely up to women and their health care professionals. Women’s health should be a deal breaker in the next election. Any politician who does not completely support women’s rights in all areas should be voted out of office.

Naughty – Megyn Kelly called for a boycott of Taylor Swift after she attended a comedy event where 100% of the proceeds went to humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.
Nice – Swift and all that attended a performance of a Ramy Youssef, an award winning comedian and actor. 100% of the proceeds sold-out show went to American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA).
Comment – As of December 1st, over 1,300 Israelis and over 15,000 Palestinians including over 6,000 children have died because of the war in Gaza. These numbers do not include all those injured and/or sick and dying from lack of resources. Let’s be clear, what Hamas is and did is evil, pure evil. But providing humanitarian aid is not evil. People of faith understand the difference, obviously Kelly does not.

Naughty – All the Republicans in Congress who continue to support Trump and his continuing lie that he won the election.
Nice – Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney and all the Republicans like her who have stood up agains Trump and his supporters. Cheney, who was and continues to be Republican royalty voted for Trump’s policies over 90% of the time. However, when Trump tried to overthrow a fair and accurate election and end our democracy, she stood strong and firm against Trump and his supporters. And she continues to do so.
Comment – With Cheney’s just published book “Oath and Honor“, she continues the battle against Trump. Cheney is correct, any vote for Trump or a Trump supporter is a vote to end our democracy. Regardless of Cheney’s political opinions and if you agree with them or not, Cheney understands the uniqueness, beauty and fragility of our democracy. She also understands Trump and his Congressional supporters are trying to end this democracy.

Above are four examples of adults being naughty and nice. For the naughty adults, hopefully Santa will put coal in their stockings, literally, their stockings when they are wearing them. For the nice, battling the naughty takes time, energy and resources. The rest of us have to support them, especially when the next Election rolls around.
