US Women’s Olympic Medals and Then 2nd Class

US Women won 67 total medals in the recently completed Olympics. They rocked and rolled in a number of events. They were simply amazing.

The US men won 59. Very good, but compared to the women, a distant second. In fact, by themselves, US women won enough medals to be third of all countries which participated. In other words, without the men, US women would have led the US to third place of all countries.

The ironic and sad fact is many of these women who represented and led the US to glory on the biggest International stage will return to some states where they are clearly second class citizens. And let’s be clear, when a woman lives in a state which restricts her personal health care decisions is a second class citizen in that state.

Part of the irony is the men who cheered for these women at the Olympics, and took personal pride in their achievements, initiated and passed laws in their home states restricting their personal health care rights and freedoms. These men may look like me, but they are nothing like me. I have only contempt for these men.

[In all honesty, they are probably not as good looking as me and not as much fun to be around as I am. Of course, in all fairness, I am rarely around other people so my margin of error is pretty small. I digress.]

Part of Presidential candidate Harris is the guarantee of personal health care for each women as a citizen of the US. Not at the whim of an individual state dominated by bunch of men who would never let their personal health care be dictated by anyone else, especially women, but are happy to do it against women. And it is against women.

My highest priority in the upcoming election is the same as it has been for some time, climate change leading to the increasing frequency, cost and repercussions from natural disasters.

But my second highest priority is women’s rights.

As an independent moderate, I will not nor will I ever support any candidate for any elected office who does not support women’s total and complete equality when it comes to health care or any other issue. I hope you do the same.
