Are You A Loyalist or Patriot

During the time of the Revolutionary War, there were essentially two political parties. They were not called political parties, but that’s what they were.

One group were the colonists who wanted to remain British subjects and supported the British army. They were called Loyalists or Tories. They included wealthy merchants and government officials who worked for the British Empire. They wanted to continue to live in a monarchy with kings and queens along with lords and ladies. They also accepted being born into royalty meant being born into a life of wealth and privilege. It is estimate as much as 30% of the colonists were Loyalists.

The other group were those who supported the Revolution, separation from the British empire and the formation of a new independent country with individual freedoms and rights. They were known as Patriots, Whigs or Rebels. They were led by our Founding Fathers like Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, and Adams to name a few. It is estimated around 40-45% of the Colonial population supported were Patriots.

In today’s US, the Loyalists or Tories would be Mega Republicans. They support the move to an authoritative government which is controlled by the wealthy. Today’s Patriots or Rebels would be what I call Americans. They support democracy and equal opportunity regardless of wealth and/or social status.

Some of our less thoughtful or informed citizens are worried about socialism. That is an unrealistic worry. The worry should be about feudalism. We have been moving towards a feudalism for some time now.

Feudalism is when kings queens, lords such as princes, dukes, barons control most of the money and the power. It is clear this is the end goal of Trump and his wealthy supporters. This is exactly what are founding fathers fought against, but here we are.

Don’t think this so. Consider this.
* In 1990 the top 1% controlled abut 22% of the total US Net Worth. At the end of 2025, the share of the top 1% increased to about 32%.
* In 1990 the federal deficit was about $3.2 Trillion. Today it $39.4 Trillion and growing. Most of this happened under Republican Presidents and Congresses. Trump and his MAGA Republicans alone is responsible for about $12 Trillion. Much of the increase in the federal deficit went to corporations who are owned by the very wealthy or the very wealthy themselves in the form of tax cuts. Essentially this was a wealth transfer from US citizens in the form of debt to the very wealthiest.
* The bottom 50% of the US own own about 2.5% of the National US wealth and take home between 12-14% of the National income. The majority of these Americans are already poor and barely surviving. Trump and his MAGA Republicans took away health care and food benefits for these individuals. 40% of US Households cannot come it with $500 in cash for an emergency if they had to. We have very rich people in this country, we are not a rich country.
* The top 1% of wealthiest Americans pwn 50% of all US equities and another 37% is owned by the next 9% so almost 90% of US equities are owned by the top 10%.
Elon Musk gave about $300 million to Republican candidates for 2024 election. Overall Billionaires gave over $2 Billion to Republican candidates for 2024 election. Wealthy Republicans have givej almost $900 million to Republicans for the 2026 elections with months remaining. Wealthy individuals and corporations give obscene amounts of money to Republican candidates so the candidates will vote their agenda which is essentially tax cuts for the rich, reduction or end of social benefits for the bottom 50%.

Think about this. AOC does not take money from corporate PACS, lobbyists, or special interest groups. Her average contribution is about $20.00. It takes 50 million Americans at $20 each to contribute $1 Billion. Who is answering to the people, AOC or Republican candidates who take billions from wealthy individuals?

The Revolutionary War was between Great Britain and Patriots/Whigs. Today’s war is between MAGAs with their billionaire donors and Americans. You are in either one group or the another. Patriots who fought and often died during the Revolutionary War dreamed of a better future and individual rights for their children and grandchildren. They rejected a monarchy and authoritative government for democracy. They rejected a government controlled by a few rich people for a government by and for the people.

Today, as we celebrate our Independence, Americans throughout the US need to be as brave and thoughtful as our Patriot founders and reject any and all MAGA candidates and their wealthy supporters.
